Our Farm

Our Farm is located south of the Historical Town of Clinton in the Southern Cariboo Region of Beautiful British Columbia known as Gold Country.  We are nestled in the valley on Highway 97 also known as the Gold Rush Trail at the base of Hart Ridge on a small acreage surrounded by mountains and wilderness.  The closest City is Kamloops 1 hour drive to the east and we are approximately 4 hours North of Vancouver.  The area boasts plenty of recreational opportunities and is titled as the Guest Ranch Capitol of Canada.

We are now into our fifth year of breeding sheep. Raising sheep provides us with an enjoyable lifestyle that greatly contrasts the professional work that we do. We have both Clun Forest & Blue Faced Leicester Sheep. We have built up our flock of Cluns and have secured 5 different blood lines – some that are closely linked to the first lines that were imported into Canada in the 1970’s and some that are a product of semen that was imported from the UK. We plan to use the Bluefaced to produce Clun Mules for market lamb using the UK 3-tier system and to supply these mules to the Commercial Producer as well as ourselves.  We have our first Clun Mules on the ground for 2009 and have purchased a terminal sire for the fall of 2009 breeding. This will be the final step to reach the complete 3-tier system and offer exceptional market lamb for our own farm gate sales. So far the Clun Mules are showing exceptional results.

In 2007 we decided to obtain Livestock Guardian Dogs for flock protection.  The area in which we live is abundant with wildlife and predators such as Bear, Coyote, Wolves and Cougar are literally just out the back door.  After researching numerous breeds we settled on the Maremma.  We currently run Doberman Rescue BC and as we are involved in dog rescue we have the benefit of networking with numerous rescue groups.  It wasn’t long before we were advised of a female Maremma that was in need of a new home. Kira came from proven working lines and spent most of her life on a sheep ranch until the ranch was sold and she went to live in the City.  The owners were distraught over this and wanted Kira to be able to do what she was born to do - protect sheep. We have since purchased other Maremma guardians and time and time again they prove themselves by fiercely protects their sheep while being gentle with lambs and people.

One can find other characters on our farm including horses and a number of cows and barn cats who act more like dogs than cows or cats.
